A herniated lumbar disc is one of the most common reasons patients seek a spine specialist in Jordan. The lower back carries the weight of most daily activity, and the discs that cushion the lumbar vertebrae can bulge or tear, pressing on nearby nerves.
When the herniation affects the sciatic nerve, patients feel pain, tingling, or weakness that travels from the back down the leg. This is commonly called sciatica. Most cases improve with conservative care (rest, medication, physiotherapy, targeted injections), but a minority need surgical evaluation.

Common symptoms
- Lower back pain that travels down one leg (sciatica)

- Relief when lying down or walking slowly

- New or worsening leg weakness, especially foot drop
- Loss of bladder or bowel control — seek emergency care immediately
- Severe pain that does not improve with rest after 2-4 weeks
- Numbness in the groin or inner thigh (saddle anesthesia)
- Pain that wakes you from sleep regularly
